Are you waiting for the Galaxy Nexus? pdog.ws It’s an epic throwdown between two hot T-Mobile Android phones! Aaron pits T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S II against the HTC Amaze 4G. The Galaxy S II is the third version of the iconic device to land in the United States, and it offers a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 CPU, 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording capabilities, a front-facing camera, 1850 mAh battery (which is the largest out of the three US Galaxy S II variants), and Android 2.3.5 with TouchWiz 4.0. It retails for 9.99 with a two-year contract. The HTC Amaze 4G, on the other hand, sports a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, 4.3-inch qHD display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording (which HTC claims is the best camera on any smartphone), a front-facing shooter, 1730 mAh battery, and Android 2.3.4 with HTC’s Sense 3.0. It’s housed in a beautiful metal body, and is available at T-Mobile for 9.99. The Amaze 4G is a bit more expensive, but the build quality is much better and the camera is impressive. That said, the Galaxy S II’s display is larger and it has a bigger battery. Which one will win in the dogfight? Part 1 of 2. I upgraded the firmware to 2.2 as soon as I got it. Thats something good about unlocked phones; you get updates faster than the branded ones. After looking over many similar phones I concluded that the Galaxy S was the best choice for a multimedia device. Has a big 4″ display with a superb superamoled screen. Despite the camera lacks a led flash still performs good in poor light conditions; just gotta have a stil hand. Video recording is sharp with nice audio quality. Also records pretty good in dark environments picking up the few light sources despite the lack of a night recording mode. The touchwiz 3.0 interface is not bad at all. At first I thought that the similarity the menu layout has with the iphone would be bad, but then I started to like it. The way it organizes your apps make the scrolling fast and simple. You can also have the option to have then on a long list but I prefer the “iphone” look. The homescreen layout is also good. The fact that you can have 3 shortcuts always at the bottom makes my life easier. There is a lot of videos and articles on the net that explains how to root the Galaxy S and apply the lag fix.
